All my computers cost $6 a month and have unlimited backup storage. There are other minor issues, but these are non-negotiable projects. Less than $10 a month is my general rule of thumb. Cheap - I want to pay for storage instead of bandwidth. Also, I need to be able to access my backups from the web.Ħ. Accessibility - I need a service that runs on any platform, especially Mac OS X and Linux. I need something that can run in the background without any noise.ĥ. I don't want a stupid service, it does this kind of thing and consumes my computer resources. Smart, low-key applications - Modern operating systems like Mac OS X record which files have changed. I want to be able to back up to my designated services at home and on the internet as well as many other computers.Ĥ. Obviously, if my house burns down, it doesn't do me any good, but it's easier if the laptop crashes than grabbing 500GB from the local machine. Distributed Backup - Part of the reason I have a 6x1TB RAID array for ultra-fast local backup.
